Hoi [Lineage]

Despite the deep-need to find their own individual fortunes, Hoi take their lineage seriously, using it as a way to introduce themselves to strangers. Introductions usually include their full name or alias, their parent(s) name, what they consider to be their profession or serious hobby, and even where they were born. Even those who have come from parents with a torrid past would offer the same information (though they may opt for a simpler greeting to avoid any immediate suspicions of connections)

A straight-forward, common greeting could be:
'I am Gai, of Nik and Til, the Carver from the West River'.

A longer introduction, often when meeting people in positions of authority or if a Hoi is looking to leave a lasting impression, could include both the parents full-names and professions, and offer more specific details about who they are:
'I am Gatharian, known as Gai, of Nicholas the Hunter and Tilana the Fisher; a carver of black stone and a collector of opal seashells,'

River-born often have rounded fins, and have truncate tails.
Pond-born often have translucent fins, and have rounded tails.
Lake-born often have split fins, and have emarginate tails.
Ocean-born often have a trailing dorsal fin, and have lunate tails.

Gha'vi of the West Rivers
One of the most common Hoi in and around the land, the Gha'vi lineage offers a more land-locked physical form; while they can no longer breathe underwater, they can go years without needing to submerge themselves in water! Their body can change in slight depending on the cooler & warmer months, and unfortunately, have been a target for hunters because of their shimmering pelts.

Todou of the Western Lakes
Often living within reach of a moderate sized body of water, the Todou lineage still have very-apparent aquatic traits. Second most common, they still prefer swimming over land-locked living, but they can travel around the lands with little to no problem. They can have problems with hunters who are after their thick pelts, horns, and hardened fish-scales.

Tid'ir of the Ocean Waters
The largest percentage of aquatic-features to land-features and the largest lineage of Hoi, the ones from the Tid'ir Ocean Waters are built for the long, deep treks into deep waters. They're uncomfortable walking long distances on land, and can get seriously dry eyes, throat, and fins if they don't soak in waters every-so often. The largest clan around, they find safety in the ocean (for the most part), able to breathe underwater and otherwise undisturbed by any rainfall or rainstorm.

Vaida of the North Rivers
Built to survive the chill of the north, whether on land or under water, their body and fur are thicker than the norm, and they're one of the least-hunted lineages as they tend to thrive where less winter-inclined species would go.

Ghoruu of the Evolhiem River
A brilliant balance of traits, hunted for their pelts and scales, those of the Ghoruu lineage tend to distrust most other sentient races, and despite the ability to thrive on both land and in water, often stick to water moreso. Those individuals who do decide to take for the land, are often the target for many hunters, trappers and slavers.

Baudo of the Eastern Streams
Long-limbs and sleek, and one of the smaller clans, the Baudo have seen the most damage from treasure-seekers; the streams are rarely big or strong enough to house too many adult Hoi, and so many of those born in the streams must take off to find a home in another body of water. Its become a legend for young-ones- a 'passage into adulthood' to make the trek from the East to the South, North, or West.
