Hoi

(plural: hoi)
hoy
(plural: hoi)
Un-common in and around the land-locked areas of the world, Hoi average 15% of the main populace; primarily a water-based people, even those who've eventually settled inland, tend to make their homes as close to any large body of water as possible.
Upright hound-looking beings with scale-covered limbs, an aquatic tail-like appendage, fins, whiskers, and an (ordinarily) centered horn, Hoi are visually distinctive with high-key genetic 'notes', evolved to survive within a variety of different waters; from tumultuous rivers and deep lakes, to the fathomless depths of the Ocean.
They're not especially keen helping strangers (in large part due to their history), and most have a general dis-like of Youshi, falling prey to their ferals. Despite agitated feelings due to the past and the power to fight, most Hoi will avoid confrontation outright, and whenever possible. Their true talent comes from quick wit and deep thoughts; as a race, they harbor deep intellectual ponderings, a contemplative mind, and slight impatience for surface-value thinkers. They're often deemed as very wise by general society, and those who've never seen a Hoi in their lifetime, have come to view them as 'Lucky Omens' when passing-by during their travels.
Individualistic by nature, a Hoi will almost always travel alone. The few settlements that have been created by Hoi are within the deep, un-touchable waters by modern sentients, and the few who make their lives above water have little to say or offer in regards to their 'hidden metropolis'.
Scavengers and collectors of neat, thrifty things, most Hoi have a 'nest' of collected items somewhere- from rare treasures to every-day rubble, anything that piques a Hois interest can potentially wind up in the alcove where a Hoi goes for security and shelter- something all Hoi, even those with homes, tend to have!
Hoi make good friends with Gato and Aedrachen, dis-like Humans, and have conflicting attitudes towards Hymun...
Magic can be affective on a Hoi; at the same time they're very effective with casting it!
Their hound-parts can sport patterns found on seals, bears, foxes, and rabbits; their aquatic-parts ordinarily have colours and patterns found on Koi, Carp, and Betta fish. Both patterns and pelt/scale colours depend on their families genetics.
