Separating ourselves from experiences and feelings, we as writers, can very often give away feelings, emotions, and personal hurt to an OC and their story. It's incredibly common to create characters which embody the things we think of, the things we feel, and the experiences we go through in life.
Writing is a fantastic way to take emotional experiences and compartmentalize feelings into many different stories and Avatars. Staying in the throes of anguish however, is incredibly unhealthy in the long run! It's important to take note if you are simply deeply involved with a stories emotion, or if you're roiling in something that happened earlier that day, or week, or in the last few years!
To be apart of a community, you need to be aware of your day-to-day aches & pains, and gently aware of the way you interact with the world at large when you're having a bad day; be aware of the things that cause you to feel intense emotions, and how you treat others that are strangers, acquaintances, or friends! Take the time to sit with your feelings, and use this forum and these characters as ways to cope and grow into a better understanding of you!
